Mass

It’s not a measure of a chemical compound, it’s a word used to describe our worship service.

Mass: another word for the Eucharistic Sacrifice, or Holy Communion.

The word Mass (in Latin, missa) was first established as the general designation of the Eucharistic Sacrifice in the Western church after the time of Pope Gregory the Great (AD 604.)  Prior to the designation of “Mass,” the Eucharistic Sacrifice was known variously as the breaking of bread, the liturgy, the Lord’s Supper, the Sacrifice, the gathering together, the Mysteries and the Sacrament of the Altar.
